Spanish for Law Enforcement

The Center of Languages has developed a program specializing in law enforcement. We understand the importance of being able to communicate with the Spanish-speaking community, and it is of the utmost importance to be able to give clear instructions required at any moment. With clear communication, tragic misunderstandings can be avoided.

The program is divided in the following manner:

  • Pronunciation and spelling

The class material is in accordance with the student’s level on the placement test, and the class helps students with pronunciation, fluency, and spelling. Students learn and practice the rules of spelling, perform exercises in pronunciation to improve fluency, and increase vocabulary. The class utilizes the book that goes with the student’s level as well as additional material.

  • Grammar

In this class, students learn how to write correctly in Spanish, how to conjugate verbs in different tenses and utilize them correctly in conversation. Students learn the language with the help of grammar while at the same time focusing on the oral aspect of language acquisition, which is also very important. The program includes both oral and written exercises and utilizes various teaching strategies. The grammar class uses the book and extra material according to the student’s level obtained on the placement test.

  • Functional program for law enforcement

Students learn useful vocabulary, such as specific commands, parts of the body, practical questions, etc. The class is taught in a dynamic manner.

  • Conversation for law enforcement

In this class, students put into practice what they have learned in the previous class. Written material is provided with examples of situations which can arise in this line of work, and students practice reacting using the Spanish they have learned. In addition, students learn aspects of the Latino culture to better understand the Latino community.
